oNORMO is born in a period during which the notion of normality is dominant. Normality usually refers to a typical or expected way of acting.
NORMO is committed to question the seemingly indisputable normalities of contemporary life. Will do so by acting as a medium through which we can re-examine what is perceived as normal both mentally and physically.
STUDIO FOR ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN
NORMO is a platform for architecture and design research with presence in Rotterdam and Athens. Our studio has the ambition to challenge existing conditions and to develop living, working and cultural environments around the world, in association with how contemporary life evolves. We address every project based on its unique characteristics and we offer our clients a complete plan for their future projects, from its conception to its realisation.
ANDREAS KARAVANAS
The principal architect and founder of NORMO Andreas Karavanas has studied architecture and urbanism at NTUA Athens, TU Berlin and has received a MSc from the Berlage Institute inRotterdam (diploma with Prof. E. Zenghelis in 2010). His working experience includes his involvement in international projects while working for reputable offices such as OMA/ Rem Koolhaas, HUB and MAXWAN.
His individual work and research has won several prizes, winning the 1st prize in Europan 11 (Vienna) being among them. He has been exhibited in various exhibitions such as IABR, Design Week in Hong Kong and the 7th Biennale of young architects. His academic work is highly recognised and published in various media; Andreas has lectured at and been invited as a guest critic by a number of respected institutions including the University of Patras / School of architecture, the National Technical University of Athens and The Berlage Institute.
NORMO is currently engaged in the spatial and visual identity of an art gallery in Athens, Greece; and the construction of a hotel complex in a coastal landscape on the island of Evia Greece.
